First semester of Computer Science and Engineering. This is a hands-on class; learn-by-doing! Students work with microprocessors and other electronic components to build and program working electronic devices. Students will understand and use electronic components, microprocessors, the PBASIC language, the SPIN language, and be introduced to object-oriented design. Learn the basics of object-oriented programming, become proficient writing programs using the Java language, and prepare for the AP Computer Science exam. Learn by doing - hands-on science. In this class students learn about analog electronics by building and understanding audio amplifiers, microphones, and switching circuits. Digital electronics is explored by learning to build electronic devices and programming a microprocessor to operate them. Students complete the class by programming a hand-built robot to navigate a maze unassisted.
